Sunday 28th October 2012
10am – 1pm
Well the date has been set and the countdown has begun! The plant team have been very busy dividing, potting up cuttings, and hunting for pots!
Already we have a wonderful selection of plants on the go so be sure to visit this site regularly and our Facebook page to see what’s been going on.
Sunday 28th October
Sale Day…..and what a fabulous day it was, the forecast had been awful all week leading up to the big day but the rain held off and the sun made a few appearances! Perfect plant shopping weather for the crowd….and what a crowd it was. Our first couple started forming the queue at 9.06 (good thing there was a planter box to perch on!) They very patiently watched the last of our preparations…. It wasn’t long till a steady stream of cars started pouring in and well before 10 the queue swelled to some 300 people!
Check out the photos of the day below or click here for more. We hope you are all really happy with your purchases and our selection and are keeping an eye on our countdown till our next sale….The team won’t thank me for that! We have had a tidy up of the very few bits and pieces we bought back and they are enjoying a well earned break.
Be sure to check back every now and again to check on our progress….
We exceeded our target for the day and are looking forward to establishing our ‘productive garden’ at school….raised beds, fruit trees, compost system, hazelnut hedge, berry bushes and more. We are also hoping to finish our landscaping around the hall.
A huge thank you to our team, a small dedicated bunch of ladies who gave up many, many hours to make this happen…Ann, Anne, Bex, Donna, Hayley, Jo, Jenni, Karen, Kate, Leigh, Liz, Maria, Maria, Tina, Tracy…What a team!
Thank you also to everybody that came and helped, browsed and shopped!! We really appreciate your support ….happy gardening.
Later on….Saturday 27th October
Well its done, a full day of set up and a great effort by all, here’s how its looking…ps…park your trailer on the school grounds, after you have taken your plants home come back to load up with your mulch! The bobcat will be in operation….

Best get to it….
Tuesday 9th October
Absolutely nothing to do with gardening….well there is reference to a tree…..I loved this so much I just had to share….
Anyway….where are we at? Less than three weeks till sale day and its raining again! The hostas love it….look at these growing beautifully. The Hostas sold out in a flash in 2010 so be sure to be there early.
The Peonies are budding up beautifully….we have about 150 for sale, 4 different colours, and just look at these Asiatic Lilies coming up, these will look stunning in any setting or in pots on your patio.
The Strawberries and Raspberries are flowering! You will have fruit off these in no time at all.
Looking for a stunning edge to your border, worth thinking about a gorgeous Red Heuchera, trouble free in my garden ….these were buried under that heavy snow for about 2 weeks….just look at them now….we have plenty for sale but I’m sure they wont last long!!
If you look below you will see a very good looking Treetech truck, the generous fellows at Treetech have donated us literally a mountain of garden mulch. We will be selling it for $5 per bag, 3 bags for $10 or $10 per scoop. The bobcat will be in operation so bring your trailer….
Thursday 20th September
What a cold drizzly morning, not so great for the plant team but the plants are just thriving as we continue with our unsettled spring weather, the days getting warmer….the rain still falling…..
We are really excited to be offering something new this year, Tree Tech have generously donated us a mountain of garden mulch, we will have this for sale on the day by the bag or trailer load. It will be the perfect time to mulch the garden having completed your spring tidy up!
Thursday 6th September
Overdue for an update…. The plants are looking great….everything is starting to put on growth with this wonderful spring weather, a bit of rain, some lovely sunshine and a bit of warmth!
Perennials
The team made a fabulous effort today, 600 perennials potted! We really want to offer a good variety of perennials on sale day.
Today we added to our selection, we started with Phlox (one of my favourite flowers), these beautful plants form clumps in no time, add lovely height to your garden and are a must for any herbaceous border. We have some pink phlox and some lovely white with a pink centre.
We also potted Monkshood (Aconitum), curious, hooded flowers, reminiscent of a monks hood! Helleborus, white, pink and a lovely deep dark pink, a number of violets, these lovely delicate wee plants form a pretty ground cover in no time, Rudbeckia, Tiarella, Campanula and Astrantia, along with a selection of others….be sure to come and check them out…
Thursday 28th June
Trees, Trees, Trees
Today we potted up our trees, some fabulous varieties, Acer, Cornus, Gleditstia, Liquidamber, Magnolia, Malus, and some Fruit Trees – Apples and Peaches. All of these trees have been grown locally and will grow into lovely specimens over the years.
Thursday 14th June
Well the snow has finally gone (most of it!) but what a cold, grey morning…the team battled on however, potting mix that had been covered in snow for a week is not that easy on the fingers though!! We can definitely say that the plants we will have on offer on sale day will be well and truly grown for local conditions…surviving first the snow and then that run of very hard frosts! The Buxus is looking great and we potted over 100 Escallonia (red) that will make a fabulous hedge….this grows extremely well in my garden. Have you seen the list of Bearded Iris on the ‘Plant List’ page, these were donated to us by a wonderful chap that used to sell them commercially, amazing colours….I can’t decide which are my favourite but it could be Fringe Benefits or Spring Night…. be sure to check out the full range and photos on the ‘Plant List’ page under ‘Iris‘.
We also potted up some Dutch Iris bulbs, Santolina (Cotton lavender) and some Daylily (Hemerocallis). Daylilies are a wonderful plant in the garden, either in drifts or in a mixed border, most flowers last for just one day but flower repeatedly during the season.
Wednesday 6th June
Well crikey, was it only 2 weeks ago we were still donning the sunhats and feeling pleased with ourselves….potting scheduled for 9am tomorrow morning and here’s how the ‘potting shed’ is looking!!
Thursday 24th May
What a gorgeous morning! Who would have thought we are fast approaching the end of May.
There were many things on the list (as always!) some things needed to be tidied and tucked away for winter, we had a number of perennials to pot up, Michaelmas Daisy, Epimedium and Iris amongst others. We potted up some well rooted Lonicera from the propogation unit, this will make someone a great looking hedge.
Some of us headed to dig up some stunning Burgandy Peonies and some beautiful Asiatic Lillies (orange and yellow) when we got the call that we also were needed elsewhere to dig some White and Red Peonies….add these to the selection of Corals we already have and you are in Peony heaven!
